Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra will appear in a U.S. Fund for UNICEF Public Service Announcement to help raise funds for Philippines relief efforts for areas ravaged by Super Typhoon Haiyan. Spoelstra, whose mother is from the Philippines, previously issued a statement through the Heat: “On behalf of the Miami Heat organization, we would like to extend our condolences to the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. We value the many fans that we have over there, and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.” In July, 2009, Spoelstra embarked on the first of four trips to the Philippines. On each of these trips, he hosted basketball and coaches clinics, promoted the importance of education, healthy living and wellness, while being able to reach close to 10,000 underprivileged youth through these efforts.
