After a month of hearing what his team can’t be, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said he sees nothing wrong with his team dialing into the doubts for fuel.
“I’ve said this for a long time, that I’m OK if with players using that for motivation,” he said, with the Heat opening the regular season Wednesday night at the Amway Center against the Orlando Magic.
What matters, Spoelstra said, is that the incentive doesn’t stop there.
“But if we’re going to have the type of season that we want to have, our motivation has to be much deeper than that,” he said. “It has to be about caring about each other, serving each other, about playing for the next guy, finding a way where you can really enjoy someone else’s success.
